Answering your questions about roofing.
Gikas Roofing provides professional roofing services throughout Rockland County, NY, Westchester County, NY, Fairfield County, CT, and Northern New Jersey. Our headquarters are in Pearl River, NY. If you're unsure whether your address falls within our service area, we're happy to confirm before scheduling a free inspection.
Gikas Roofing was founded in 1982 as a small family trade. Over four decades later, under the leadership of Paul Mihalis and Riley Topper, we've grown into one of the region's most trusted roofing companies — built on a legacy of integrity, expertise, and pride in every project.
Gikas Roofing is an Owens Corning Platinum Preferred Contractor — a designation held by less than 1% of roofers nationwide. We are also the area's primary recommended installer for Brava synthetic roofing products, a certification that reflects both technical expertise and a proven track record with premium materials. We are accredited by the Better Business Bureau (BBB), and a proud member of the RSRA (Roofing & Siding Residential Alliance) — an organization that holds its members to strict standards of craftsmanship and professional integrity, values that sit at the foundation of how we operate.
Yes. Gikas Roofing carries all licensing and insurance required to operate across New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, including general liability and workers' compensation. Documentation is available upon request before any project begins.
No. Once the project begins, you don't need to be home — though many homeowners do stay on-site since the work is being done directly above them. Our crews are self-sufficient, and we coordinate all access details in advance so installation moves forward smoothly.
You can reach Gikas Roofing at (845) 441-7663. Inquiries are also accepted through our free estimate form and our instant estimate tool, which provides fast pricing based on your home's address and size.
If our team notices something during inspection or installation that could affect the long-term performance of your roof — such as compromised decking, ventilation problems, or gutter issues — we'll bring it to your attention.
Getting started begins with a free roof inspection and estimate. We confirm your property details, evaluate the current condition of your roof, walk you through your options, and prepare a transparent quote. From there, you decide if and when to move forward — there's no obligation.
After your request, a Gikas Roofing representative reviews your information and schedules a free on-site inspection, typically within 24 hours. During the visit, we assess your roof's condition, document any issues, and discuss material options. You then receive a detailed estimate outlining scope, materials, and pricing.
The most helpful information includes your property address, approximate home size or roof square footage if known, the age of your current roof, and any known issues such as leaks, missing shingles, or interior damage. Photos of problem areas are useful but not required — we'll inspect everything on-site.
Yes. Every project is documented with a written contract that outlines the scope of work, materials, pricing, timeline, and warranty terms. This protects both the homeowner and our crew and ensures clear expectations on both sides.
Start times depend on scheduling availability, permit timing, and material lead times. Most projects begin within 2–4 weeks of contract signing. Storm restoration and emergency repairs are prioritized when safety or weather damage is involved.
Roofs in poor condition are exactly what we specialize in. Whether your roof is leaking, aging out, storm-damaged, or showing signs of multiple failures, we evaluate the full system — decking, underlayment, flashing, ventilation, and shingles — and recommend the most cost-effective path forward, whether that's targeted repair or full replacement.
Most asphalt shingle roofs last 20–30 years depending on ventilation, installation, and material. Severe winters and UV exposure can shorten lifespan — professional installation helps extend it.
Missing or curling shingles, interior leaks, ceiling stains, and granules in gutters are warning signs. If your roof is 15–20+ years old, schedule a free inspection.
It’s technically allowed up to two layers, but we don’t advise it. A full tear-off lets us inspect the deck and replace membranes and ice & water shield, keeping warranties valid and durability high.
Most residential roof replacements are completed in 1–2 days once work begins, weather permitting. Larger homes, complex rooflines, or projects involving synthetic slate, cedar shake, or Spanish tile may take 3–7 days. Commercial and flat-roof projects vary based on size and system type.
A thorough roof inspection generally takes 30–60 minutes depending on home size, roof complexity, and the level of damage being evaluated. After the inspection, we walk you through our findings and discuss your options before leaving the property.
Yes. You'll receive confirmation before your inspection, before material delivery, and before crews arrive on the install date. Communication is provided through your preferred method — phone, text, or email.
Weather is evaluated before every install. Roofing work cannot safely be performed in active rain, high winds, or icy conditions, so if weather doesn't cooperate, the project is rescheduled to the next available dry window. This protects both your home and our crew.
Yes. Gikas Roofing installs year-round. Modern adhesives and sealants are formulated to perform in cold weather, and winter projects often have shorter wait times. The key requirement is dry conditions and temperatures within manufacturer guidelines.
Yes. Daily cleanup and a final magnet sweep of the property are standard on every project. We protect landscaping during installation, dispose of all old roofing materials, and leave the site in better condition than we found it. Cleanup is part of the job — not an extra service.
We schedule primarily on weekdays, but weekend work can be accommodated for storm restoration, emergency repairs, or scheduling conflicts on a case-by-case basis.
